Urethral plug

Dr Jnanee Krishnasamy

A urethral plug is solid material formed from material like blood, minerals and bladder debris that can block the urethra.

Urethral plugs are a common cause of blocked urethras, which cause life-threatening damage to the body. Signs of urethral blockage include an inability to urinate, straining to urinate, vomiting, and pain – pets with a suspected blocked urethra should be taken to the nearest open vet as an emergency.
