Hypothyroidism refers to abnormally low thyroid hormone levels. Hypothyroidism mostly affects dogs. It mostly occurs because of poorly understood factors that destroy the thyroid gland. Signs of hypothyroidism in dogs include lethargy, weight gain and balding.
