Gingivostomatitis

This term might seem quite long and scientific, but when you break it down into ‘gingivo’ which refers to the gums, ‘stoma’ which means opening (in this case, the mouth) and ‘itis’ which means inflammation, it’s not quite so intimidating! It refers to inflammation of the mouth and gums and is a common condition in cats. Although an underlying cause hasn’t been confirmed, it’s thought to be related to multiple factors including allergies or hypersensitivities, certain viruses, and even stress.
