Petlearnia Adds Buying Advice

Did any of you eagle-eyed social media followers spot what we were working on?

That’s right, Petlearnia now has an advice section dedicated to product decisions. Whether you’re searching for the best food puzzle for cats or the best bed for senior pets, our buying guides contain useful advice and a few recommendations from our team of veterinary professionals.

What’s changed?

We’re still the same safe source of information as before, and we still have all our amazing courses available to help pet parents deal with complex health issues. But now we have a section of our website dedicated to helping pet parents choose good products. It means you’ll have a helping hand every step of the way. When our vets recommend a product, they share an affiliate link with you. And if you decide to go ahead and purchase, Petlearnia receives a small commission (normally about 5%) from the company.

Why are you advising what pet parents buy?

In our courses, we’ll often recommend you change something about your set-up at home. It’s part of our commitment to holistic care. For example, in our course about cats with urinary issues we recommend water fountains, or in our course about kidney disease in cats we recommend a kidney diet. To make things easier for you, these recommendations will now link to advice pages where we explain what to look for when choosing a product and give links to some products we feel meet these recommendations.

Our Petlearnia Promise

We’re the same trusted website as ever and we will never prioritise income over the truth. Our recommendations are not based on the commissions we receive, but on our experiences and extensive research into scientific evidence and other people’s experiences too. We only recommend products that genuinely have a good scientific basis or evidence for a benefit. Our threshold for ‘good evidence’ is high, and you’ll notice some normal advice pages are missing from our website – that’s because we don’t want to recommend products that we feel aren’t grounded in good science. For example, you won’t find information about the ‘best flea shampoos’ because, as vets, we wouldn’t recommend you use a flea shampoo.

Why is Petlearnia User-Supported?

You might be wondering why we made the decision to start adding affiliate links to our posts. The thing is, it costs a lot to run a website. Our courses take 30+ hours of writing, editing, and publishing time, all of which has to be paid for – and that’s before we start looking at website costs. We want to keep our courses accessible for the pet parents that need them, but to do so we need to recover costs elsewhere. So, thank you for making a purchase through our affiliate links. It’s only pennies, but it adds up to keeping Petlearnia’s expert advice accessible for everyone.
