A femoral head ostectomy (FHO) refers to removal of the thigh bone (femur)’s head and neck. In other words, an FHO removes the “ball” of the ball-and-socket hip joint. FHOs increase hip mobility in pets with certain types of hip problems like severe hip joint arthritis or hip dysplasia.
